Got an online message from cahoot as follows -

Introductory Rate Savings anniversary notification. cahoot would like to remind all customers with an introductory rate savings account that although the rate guarantee period on your account is shortly coming to an end, we are pleased to tell you for the time being the introductory savings rate of 5.65% AER* will continue unchanged. This means that you can continue to save at a very competitive rate, and may want to add savings from elsewhere. *5.65% gross p.a./AER is payable on account balances up to £50,000.

Great news !

Good news, had over 40k parked in the wifes name...

It must be a response to all the emails they must be getting...

Though I can't imagine that they can let things stand beyond September... not with the money market rates starting to discount a base rate cut !

Saw the following on the fool site earlier today-

Not got an email yet, still on 5.65% after the intrductory offer finished.

No e-mail here as yet (and none from Egg either) but I've just been speaking to Cahoot about another matter and discovered that they'll be reducing these special rates wef 23/8/5 to:
First 50k = 5.3
Next 200k = 4.8
Over 250k = 4.3

That's a consistent drop of 0.35% on each tier.

Cheers!

So looks like the introductory rate will stick at 5.3% !

I contacted Cahoot by e-mail and received the following reply

Thank you for contacting cahoot.

Following the Bank of England decision on 4th August 2005 to reduce the UK Base Rate from 4.75% to 4.50%, cahoot will be changing rates on the Savings Account, Introductory rate Savings Account, Credit Card, Current Account and overdraft with effect from 23rd August 2005.

cSA Pre-23.08.05 Rate
A/C Balance AER / Gross p.a.
Up to £50,000 5.65%
£50,000 to £250,000 5.15%
£250,000+ 4.65%

cSA Post-23.08.05 Rate
A/C Balance AER / Gross p.a.
Up to £50,000 5.30%
£50,000 to £250,000 4.80%
£250,000+ 4.30%

So there it is - The rate IS 5.3% Smile
