Gorden delivered a pre-election budget where key items were the freeze on most duties, £200 in council tax rebate to pensioners, above inflation increases in Tax credits, ISA's held at £7k for the next 5 years, and last but not least the increase in Stamp duty threshold from £60k to £120k
Most people come out winners, but what does it mean for you ? |

For me the best benefit is the continuation of the ISA's at £7k for at least the next 5 years !!
It was a Big freeze budget !
Clear winners are -
Savers, and workers (with famalies), and those at the bottom of the property ladder with the doubling of stamp duty.
And of course pensioners !! I mean they appear to have won the lottery
The Losers are -
Smokers with bear guts
Incapacity benefits claimants who can work but won't ! About bloody time !
P.S.
I was going to say that drivers are winners with the freeze, but with crude nudging $55, i think 2005 is going to be a very costly year for drivers ! |

yeh, fine pensioners win, low paid working families win.
But the rest ? I mean they did not increase the tax bands so given inflation I lose |

I am a winner !
Tax credits are going up quite significantly ...
Though I think the pensioners win the most ? |

| The £200 council tax rebate for pensioners is good, though would probably be money better spent if it was targetted at low paid pensioners. |

Don't see why all pensioners should not be getting it, since they have worked hard and contributed all their life.
Also if it were means tested then many pensioners would not claim it. |
