Wow you really have to abbreviate titles here, don'cha?
Hi everybody, I was just wondering if anyone could help me
I am currently living in Essex, but I was a student in Birmingham for 3 years - I left in July and have not been back since though. This morning I got a call from a bailiff asking me for council tax since August. It was the first I'd heard of it all - no correspondence had been forwarded.
Having been a good little student, I handed over all the correct tax forms when I moved in, however on contacting the council (in a panic after speaking to the bailiff) I found out that it was dastardly ex landlord failing to give them some paperwork.
The chap at the council said that he had set the paperwork in motion to stop the charges, and I needn't worry as I didin't owe them anything, which is fair enough, but I am hoping to get a mortgage next year and I would really like to know if this will have affected my credit rating, and if so, what can I do about it? |

It will effect your credit rating if you have a county court judgement against you.
Was there a CCJ ? |

Was there a CCJ ? |
Thanks very much for the speedy reply! I don't know yet if there was a CCJ - I was at work when I took the calls & had to rush off, so I don't know the finer deatails. I explicitly asked to be sent the confirmation/information on everything by post, though the fella at the council said he'd be passing on my case on Monday, so hopefully I'll hear from them later this week.
I'd expect there probably was a CCJ though, if they'd been after me since August... I'll post back on here once I hear from them! |
