Heres what the website says -
It's greener on our side
On activation of your card, we will fund five trees to be planted by the Woodland Trust.
Five trees will offset the equivalent amount of CO2 as a smart fortwo coupé pure emits in one year. Based on an average annual mileage of 6,000 miles.
In addition, the card plastic used for smart will be PET-G which contains virtually no chlorine or other highly toxic chemicals that are contained in standard PVC credit cards.
