Bank of scotland offer basically a free business account, with the only service charge being for cheques - 40p each.

Alliance & Leicester offer an excellent free business bank account. I've used it for over a year and found it excellent. What I really like is the Business Reserve account that pays 4% on instant access, a great place to keep your spare business money. The online software is a bit dated but a new platform is coming in Feb 2006.

If you open a proper A&L current account they let you open a 10% savings account

You only really need a business account if your setting up a limited company, you can still use the normal bank account
