With inflation (RPI) running at 3.6%, these certificates look very appealing for tax payers, especially higher rate tax payers !
The 5-year 41st Issue Certificate pays RPI +1.1% Which is 4.7%, TAX Free, this equates to a basic rate taxyer of approx 6% and 8% for higher rate tax payers !
representing an excellant investment should inflation rise further.
An equavalenet fix bond would have to pay 6% gross.

The bank of England going to do what it needs to do to reign in inflation, it could well head back to below 2% in a years time, in which case 3% is nto that good !
I think its very temporary, i.e. the current condition. |

Hi Wade
you could be right there -
Britain's inflation rate held steady in October, data showed on Tuesday, wrongfooting analysts who had forecast that higher university tuition fees would lift it to a decade high.
The Office for National Statistics said consumer prices rose 0.2 percent last month, keeping the annual rate of inflation steady at 2.4 percent. Analysts had expected an acceleration to 2.6 percent.
The data are likely to fuel speculation that the Bank of England won't raise rates again in a hurry. |
