According to the Mail the demerger of Biffa will take place on 9th oct 06,
Severn Trent will pay a special dividend of 165p and investors will receive 2 SVT and 3 Biffa share for every three SVT shares now held. |

Value pre/post-changes:-
Old SVT price (close 6/10) - 1417p
New value = (2/3 x 1482p at close 9/10) (2 new SVT for every 2 old)
PLUS 260p for 1 Biffa share (close 9/10)
PLUS 165p special divi accruement
= 1413p
The "5-6p" stated in the documentation would put BIFFA on (let's say 5.5p) a yield of 2.11%, hardly HYP material.
New SVT, at the "base dividend" of 57p stated in the demerger document here:-

would be on a yield of (0.57/14.82) = 3.846%, which is not too bad and which is in fact marginally higher than the historic "old SVT" yield. |
