Thinking of sellign privately to save on the estate agent fees. Have done a search on the net and there are a load of websites offering to sell for a smal fee.

I was also thinking of advertising in the local press i.e. free ads type papers/

Has anyone any other suggestions or experience of selling privately ?
Is it a good idea ?

Thanks

I tried to sell our house using the cheap and freebie sell your house type websites, without any success.

In the end gave up and left it with a local estate agent to deal with it.

If you have plenty of time then maybe you could look at the web first, but if your looking for a quick sale then stick with good local agents.

Thanks marty !

I'm in no rush to sell so will give the websites ago, but looks like it will be back to the estate agents at the end Sad

I think its going to be even harder to sell online now that the market is so slow.

I would still recommend getting a reputable local agent. If they are good they would probably be able to negotiate any offers you get up a bit more to at least cover the cost of their own fees. Much more difficult to do this negotiation yourself i.e. lack of experience.

If you are just testing the market or can wait for a sale then there would be nothing lost in giving the online agents a try.

Unfortunaetly it may be free but the offers or lack of that your likely to reflect the free service.

Best to stick to a reputable well accessed local estate agent.
