getting into this online poker milarky 
So what are good poker books ?
Ive heard a lot about Doyle Brunsons Super System ? Is it any good, and are there any beter books out there ?

Super System - is the classic poker book, though recently he has released an update to the original book Super System 2 Is available at a 34% discount from Amazon (on the link).
Heres a review on it -
Brunson is to poker what Brazil is to soccer. The same can be said for his game of choice, Texas Hold 'Em.' You see it on ESPN and in casinos all over America and it's become one of the most popular games in the world.
Supersystem I used to sell for 100 bucks back when 100 bucks was worth twice was it is today. At this price, Super System 2 is a steal. I also find it to be surprisingly fresh even though his ideas are nearly 25 years old. The writing is not great. Its left and right bold print bangs you over the head a little bit, but, even so, the author's verve and style are incredibly appealing.
From a technical standpoint, his techniques are unusual and very creative. Although, I can see why Brunson regretted publishing the book in the first place. Most of the things he says about No Limit I would not have thought up myself. Brunson's open style is preferable to Sklansky's closed and tight one in my mind. After you read it, you'll hear yourself saying again and again, "I came here to gamble."
A strategically mixed, and adaptive, style is what made Brunson a double world champion in the first place. His wisdom is valid because even if one always waits for "the nuts" there's absolutely no guarantee that you'll win anything from them. Super System II has helped me be a better poker player and I'm sure it will help you. The only negative thing I can say about it is that its size makes it tough to transport and read, but, other than it, it's sterling.

But the best poker book for online tournaments is probably Harrington on Hold 'em: Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments: The Endgame (Paperback) - At £14.63 - A 30% discount on normal price
Review -
Harrington follows on from the excellent first book with a book devoted in the main to the middle and later stages of tournaments. With the blinds rising and the stack sizes shrinking critical adjustments to your game need to be considered. Again the pages are laden with example hands that are full of information. Inflection points are discussed in depth, as are short handed play and the often over looked importance of having a solid heads up game. In fact the heads up section is the first book I have read that goes in to any depth on this subject. After reading these two books you'll be able to turn up at your local casino or card club confident that the decisions you make will be more informed and purposeful than before you sat down to read these two books. Only negative is that you are paying double price for what is just a long book, but it's superiority over lot of the others on the market make it a worthwhile investment. |
