Its much simpler than you think to port your number to a new contract / SIM. Firstly you need to contact your current network provider i.e. the network that you are on & ask them for a porting authorisation code (PAC). You can port any number , whether it's a PayG or on a regular 12 month contract.

In most circumstances (when you have fulfilled your 12 month agreement) they will give you the PAC number immediately & free of charge. The only instances whereby they may wish to charge you is if you are still within contract & need to pay off the remainder of your line rental.

Once you have your PAC code you choose your new network, then choose the handset & the tariff that suits and tell the new network the PAC code for the old number and the expiry date of the code (you are given this date when you request the PAC initially).

Usually what happens next is that you are given a temporary number, with a port transfer date (usually 7 working days) then the new network informs you by text with the phone number change over and your previous account / sim is terminated.

I'm with O2, inthe 12th month fo the contract, and I want my options to be open if they don't give me a good upgrade for free.

Do you think I can ask now for an upgrade or wait till the 12 months is up ? Or should I cancel , and how ? And how long after asking for my PAC code will they give it to me

Thanks in advance

ask for the code towards the end of your last month as you have 30 days to port the number before it expires (not your number but the pac code).

Also asking for your pac code would give you a better deal.

My contract with O2 is expiring in a few days

I will try for an upgrade in a few days at the O2 shop, if they say no then I will request the PAC code from them.

I will let the forum know what happens

Cool
