Stroud & Swindon Building Society have launched a 7% monthly regular saver , Max of £1k per month !!!- Key specs are -
Paying 7% Gross/AER on regular savings for 12 months.
Features:
> Fixed rate of interest for 12 months
> Gross interest rate for eligible non-taxpayers
Age restriction:
> Minimum age: 18
Minimum initial investment required to open and operate the account:
> £100 each month for 12 consecutive months
Maximum investment:
> Between £100 and £1,000 each month for 12 consecutive months
Restrictions on deposits:
> Minimum monthly payment to be made by Standing Order
Withdrawals:
> If you wish to make a withdrawal, the account must be closed and will be subject to a
penalty of 30 days loss of gross interest on the total funds withdrawn
Interest:
> Rate is fixed at 7% Gross/AER for a period of 12 months from opening the account
provided the following criteria are met.
- Your initial initial opening investment and subsequent monthly payments are
between £100 and £1,000
- You invest between £100 and £1,000 each month for 12 consecutive months
> Calculated on a daily basis
> Credited annually to the account at midnight on 1st April, commencing 1st April 2007
Tax:
> Interest will be paid or credited after deduction of income tax at the appropriate rate
> Non-taxpayers must first complete the appropriate Inland Revenue declaration
(R85) to qualify to have interest paid without deduction of tax. (Please contact your
local Tax Office if you are unsure about your eligibility for tax-free interest)

I phoned several branches last week and no one would allow me to apply for this Regular Saver account by post.
They said it is open to anyone but has to be done via a branch because they have to print out your application form.
I think they want you to visit the branch so that they can sell you stuff like credit cards and insurance etc. |

I opened mine in branch, as I am local.
The forms were NOT printed in the branch. Just the woman wants to sit down with you and check they can't sell you their products |

I called them during the day and asked them the two key questions the answers to which are -
1. Do you have to live in the area - NO - OPen to anybody
2. Can it be opened by Post - NO - It can only be opened in a branch. |
